Ray Hughes Storytelling and Singing!

Posted by on May 8, 2013 in Events, Music | 0 comments

This past Sunday Ray Hughes and some of his family played at MorningStar Fellowship Church. In addition to some great music and incredible harmonies sung by Brian and Ramey Whalen, Ray shared a lot of stories and jokes that kept us all laughing and learning.  Being a guitar player myself, I personally loved the vintage 1934 Gibson L-1 which sounded fantastic.  Mark joined them on fiddle and sounded incredible as well. Its hard to say what was my favorite aspect but it may have been the harmonies or possibly the jokes!  Check out Ray’s site to see when he is playing again.  He plays at The Hub in Asheville every 1st and 3rd Friday for an awesome time of worship music.  I highly recommend you to catch him sometime.

This guitar sounded so good!

Our Birds: Part 1

Posted by on Apr 30, 2013 in Our Life | 0 comments

Every year I purchase hanging flower planters and plant my own assortment of pretty flowers.  It makes me happy!  The past few years those planters have housed much more than flowers though.  Usually one of our two planters becomes the home for a momma bird and her nest.  It is the neatest thing to watch.  I documented it all the first year we witnessed it on my Yellow Pepper blog.  You can check that out here.

Anyway, this morning, as I was checking on flowers, I noticed that a nest was being built in one of my planters.  YAY!  Immediately, as I began to look at the nest, the Momma bird got into “watch” mode.  She flew very close to me and perched herself on the opposite hanging pot.  I quickly grabbed my camera to capture this incredible moment.  The “tweets” (not twitter tweets, ha!) were going crazy between her and Daddy bird.  She would fly back and forth between him and then the planter.  I like to think they were discussing what they should do about “Camera Lady” and whether they should trust her or not.  Hehe.  I love that they have come back to build their nest where they will guard their eggs and protect their babies.  It is something that I will look forward to watching every day now.

Here are the first photos that I have taken of Momma and Daddy birds.  No nest photos yet as I was focusing on the birds today.  I’ll take photos of the nest in the days to come.  Perhaps the eggs will come soon too???

Stay tuned for many more posts as I document this beautiful piece of nature and creation!

Senior Portrats: JT

Posted by on Apr 17, 2013 in Portraits, Senior Sessions | 0 comments

Just when the weather began to turn beautiful, we had the privilege of photographing JT’s Senior Portraits.  Talk about getting names mixed up!  We had a JT and a TJ. ha!  They both were responding to each others names.  It was great!

We started out the portrait session at Ballantyne Country Club.  It was a gorgeous late afternoon shoot, so we had the perfect lighting.  JT is a golfer, so after we did some portraits along the grounds we then went to shoot some action shots of him hitting on the fare way….hole 11, I believe.  After the Country Club, we then headed to downtown Waxhaw.  Prior to that, his dad switched cars with JT so that we could photograph him with his dads beautiful Genesis!  Needless to say, we all had an incredible time and JT and his parents loved the images.

Congratulations, JT, on your upcoming graduation.  It was a pleasure to get to know you and photograph your Senior Portraits.  We wish you all the best as you begin your journey to college.

TJ, getting the shot.
